Kabul Institute is an Afghan-owned, Afghan-led policy and research organization. We are building a team of people who believe Afghans should own their narrative and shape their future. We are growing our communications team. All three roles below are full-time, paid, and fully remote. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Full-Time Positions

Communications Director / Spokesperson

Leads Kabul Institute's communications strategy and serves as the Institute's public voice with media, policymakers, and partners.

  • Set and lead communications strategy across the website, Substack, X, LinkedIn, and other channels
  • Serve as spokesperson for media interviews, press briefings, and public statements
  • Lead communications for report launches, press conferences, and major events
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and editors
  • Manage and mentor the Communications Officer and Associate

Communications Officer

Runs Kabul Institute's day-to-day communications and turns our research into clear, compelling content for every audience.

  • Draft press releases, statements, and media pitches
  • Produce the weekly Kabul Institute Brief and publication announcements
  • Write and manage content across social channels and the website
  • Maintain media lists and coordinate interview requests
  • Track channel performance and report on reach and engagement

Communications Associate

Full-timeRemotePaid

Supports the communications team across content production, scheduling, monitoring, and event logistics. A strong entry point for early-career communicators.

  • Schedule and publish social media content
  • Create graphics, carousels, and visual assets
  • Monitor news coverage and mentions of Kabul Institute
  • Format publications and prepare website updates
  • Support logistics for events, X Spaces, and launches

Fluency in English is required for all roles. Dari and/or Pashto is a strong advantage. We welcome applications from Afghans inside the country and across the diaspora, and we strongly encourage Afghan women to apply.

Other Ways to Contribute

Not every contribution is a full-time job. Kabul Institute relies on volunteers, writers, and researchers who give their time and expertise to our work.

Writers and Researchers

We publish op-eds, policy analysis, and research across our three pillars: State Building and Accountability; Peacebuilding and National Reconciliation; and Climate Security and Just Transition. We welcome pitches from Afghan and international writers, researchers, and practitioners. Please include:

  • A short summary of your proposed piece or research (up to 200 words)
  • A brief bio
  • One or two samples of previous writing
